Playing with Painted Papers: Project 6 - Flower Decor

Flower Decor

Tools used:

  • Painted Papers
  • Various paper punches
  • Glue (glue stick and hot-glue)
  • Scissors
  • Craft wire
  • Wire cutter
  • Slice of wood
  • Push pin

This whimsical piece of flower decor is made using Painted Papers that are punched using a different paper punches and glued together to create a fun little piece of home decor!

Paper punches make this craft super easy, as you can quickly punch out identical pieces to use in your projects.
Punches used:

Paper Punches used in Project 6

Pink flower (left) - Heart shaped punch (approx. 16 hearts)
Red flower (middle) - Flower shaped punch (approx. 4 flowers)
Orange flower (right) - Scalloped circle punch (3 scallops circles)

Each flower has multiple layers to create extra dimension.
For both the red and orange flowers, I used a small scissors to cut on the concave area of the punched pieces to create a more petal like appearance. Each petal is then curled for a more organic look.
For the pink flower I used a round paper piece and glued several heart shapes around it like petals of a flower, curling them down like the previous flowers.

I poked small holes into the wood slice using a push pin so I could then have a space to add in the craft wire. I bent the wire in a swirl in the middle for more whimsy (it also gives it a kind of bobble head affect).

I assembled it all by hot-gluing the wire into the holes in the wood and gluing the back of the flowers to the top of the wire with a round piece of paper on the back of the wire to kind of sandwich it in place and have a cleaner finish.

The grass is made by taking strips of painted paper (approx 1.5" tall and 3" wide) cutting thin notches horizontally (almost to the edge) along the length and wrapping it around the base of the wire. I then curling all of the edges, much like paper quilling.

The centers of the flowers all have different elements.
Red flower - yellow painted punched with a typical hole punch to create small circles I then glued to the middle.
Orange flower- I glued yellow seed beads of various sizes to the center using glitter glue.
Pink flower- I used puff paint to create 3D dots for some additional texture.

This project was all about exploration and I had a great time doing it! Now it's a fun little reminder that painted papers and paper craft in general is SO versatile.

Keep following along to see if I can make it to 50 projects using Painted Papers!
